CHIROGRAPHUM

CHIROGRAPHUM
CHIROGRAPHUM
in Glossis Graeco Latin. Γραμματεῖον, cautio, instrumentum: h. e. Diploma, scriptum ac pactum, Regum Principumque manibus et subscriptionibus roboratum. In specie postea sic appellari coeperunt eae chartae, tabulae ac instrumenta, quibusin duas partes divisis sectisque, una uni, altera alteri e contrahentibus dabatur. Bis namque in codem pergameno cum describeretur contractus seu pactum, quâ parte secari ac dividi debebant; scribebantur Alphabeti maiusculae literae vel picturae exarabantur, per quqrum medium secabarut pergamenum, idque ne fraus ulla obreperet ac vitium. Quippe, ut pacti scriptique probatetur veritas, maiores illae literae divisae ac decisae, an invicem rite cohaererent responderentque, conferebantur. Cuiusmodi Chirographi meminerunt Ioann. de Ianua, Tabularium Angeriacense, Louvetus in Bellovaco, Rogerus Hovedenus in Henrico II. Alii. Sed et hisce Chirographis, sigilla ita appendebantur, ut sigillum unius parti chitographi, quae penes alterum e contrahentibus remanebat; solum apponeretur et e diverso: Sie sigillum S. Wlmani parti illi, quae manebat Ecclesiae S. Bertini; sigillum S. Bertini vero illi; quam servabat Ecclesia S. Wlmani, appensum fuisle, legitur in Tabulario S. Bertini A. C. 1207. apud Car. du Fresine Glossar. Atque hanc ob causam Chartae divisae passim Chirographa talia dicta occurunt, in Monastico Angl. Tom. II. in Chron. Andrensi, alibi: Item Chartae per alphabetum divisae, in Foris Oscae Iacobi I. Aragon. Regis A. C. 1274. et Chartae indentatae, apud Auctores laudatos praefato Viro Cl. Carolo du Fresne ubi supra, vide quoque infra Indentatae.
